Francs

2 Goose Green, Altrincham, WA14 1DW

Part of a small chain in Greater Manchester, this Francs is owned by Nick and Louise Banks and was established 12 years ago. It has brought a refreshing addition to the scene and is deservedly popular. To start could be the fritot de chevre, deep fried goat's cheese coated in breadcrumbs and chopped nuts, on a bed of French leaves, red onion and tomatoes dressed with an orange and poppy seed dressing, served with cranberry sauce. The foie de veau, chargrilled calves liver and fried onion rings dusted with Cajun spices and served with bubble and squeak, vegetables and a sharp caper and shallot dressing. A zappy little wine list with house wine from £11.95 or by the half litre from £7.

REVIEWS OF Francs

JPJ Hughes (24 September 2009)

We visited Francs for the first time on a busy Saturday night on our wedding anniversary. I’m a chef cum lecturer with over thirty years of experience. We were truly impressed by the attention to detail in food content, presentation and service. We’ll definitely be back.

Dissapointed (2 March 2008)

We went to Francs for Mother’s day. The menu offered a four-course meal for £16.95. The meal was fabulous and the service great. We have been there a number of times and always enjoyed it. However, when the bill came we were charged for coffee. When I spoke to the waitress and the manager and explained that we should not have been charged for coffee as it is a four-course menu with starters, main, sweet and coffee, the manager replied saying it was a misprint and it should only have read three-courses. Well the Manager certainly did not make us aware of this when he handed us the menu and when we placed our order. There was only three off us, but I noticed many tables with larger groups. Did people dine that day and pay for their coffees without knowing? I will dine there again, but I will be checking my bill.
