Garden Restaurant at The Royal Adelaide

Following the recent completion of a multi-million pound upgrading of the entire hotel that has made it one of the leading contenders in the trade at Windsor, the Garden Restaurant does full justice to this elegant Georgian town centre hotel overlooking the Long Walk.

Only five minutes walk from Windsor Castle and the increasingly fashionable town centre, the restaurant makes an attractive proposition for lunches and dinners for groups, conferences and special occasions. The hotel is licensed for marriage ceremonies. The hotel offers complimentary on-site parking.

All forty-two of the sumptuously furnished en suite bedrooms offer the ultimate in comfort, with air conditioning, flat screen televisions, and some have views of Windsor Castle or The Long Walk. The impressive lounge bar is a great place for a light meal and a drink with friends and family.

Dinner in the stylish air conditioned restaurant could start with roasted fennel and potato soup with herbed croutons or home cured beetroot gravlax, spaghetti of cucumber with orange and Cointreau compote. A touch of the Hestons finds its way in with pan seared wild pheasant, dark chocolate jus and red currant coulis, or more conventional roasted pumpkin tortellini tossed in coriander pesto. A terrine of leek, smoked ham and pork is served with thyme and mustard drizzle.

Vegetarians will feel their day has come at last when confronted with Welsh Glamorgan veggie sausages, leeks and Caerphilly cheese with rocket salad and mango chutney, a tasty enough sounding dish even to a hardened old carnivore. The sea is represented by grilled fillet Mignon with saffron mash, Gorgonzola butter, sautéed beans and green peppercorn jus.

We don't see enough of that tasty dish, roast guinea fowl, but here it is with leeks and peppers, butter bakes fondant potatoes, pancetta and Madeira jus. Plum glazed pork tenderloin is served on a bed of spicy fresh egg fettuccini, with sweet ginger and scallion jus.

Food such as this is deserving of a sweet ending and the Garden Room Restaurant rises to the occasion with aplomb. A warm chocolate fondant pudding with rum and raisin ice cream rises well to the occasion.

Service is friendly and the wine list offers a fine range drawn from a wide cull that includes both New and Old World, with around seven by the glass.

The hotel copes well with conferences and special events, private parties and wedding receptions.
