George Inn, The

This beautiful 14th century country inn offers a charming timber framed building with a wealth of character and charm, set in rural countryside alongside the B1053 and within easy reach of Great Dunmow, Braintree and Stansted Airport. It specialises in traditional English pub fare, and an open log fire in the winter gives the place a really homely and welcoming feel.

Under new management since April 2006 there is a full menu both at lunchtimes and during the evening, with the addition of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and basket meals, etc, available at lunchtimes. On Sundays a traditional roast is served alongside the normal menu, offering a choice of three meats and all the trimmings. The food is always cooked freshly to order and all the ingredients are sourced from local suppliers.

The pub offers up to six real ales, including ones from two local breweries, both within five miles, for that just out of the barrel taste, and hold a full range of lagers and ciders. The George Inn is featured in the Real Ale Pub Guide 2007 and Hidden Treasures 2007.
