Globe Inn, The Description

Housed in a traditional Sussex weather boarded inn originally built in 1839, The Globe Inn, in Military Road is now revamped with a light, contemporary interior and a stove for those cold winter evenings. The pub garden is a blur of activity at summertime and is believed to be one of Rye's best pub gardens for eating and drinking.

The menu changes regularly and is a reflection of the season, so stuffed mushrooms with blue cheese and sherry, and warm tiger prawns tossed in garlic and herb butter features in the list of starters. This is closely followed by main courses of pork escalope with creamy Calvados, choice of rump or rib eye steak, and roasted fresh cod fillet with buffalo mozzarella, sweet cherry tomatoes and torn basil. At lunchtime you could drop in for anything from a homemade ¼ pound burger to the Globe Inn brunch of eggs, sausages, bacon rashers, mushrooms, grilled tomato and toasted rustic loaf.

Your Reviews of Globe Inn, The

Richard + Kim Cross (30 December 2008)

On a cold winter’s night celebrating our wedding anniversary, we were spoilt for choice from all of the restaurants in Rye. However, we were incredibly fortunate to choose the Globe. Obviously not expecting much trade on a cold Tuesday two weeks before Christmas we found the door to be locked but once opened, a warm and very friendly welcome awaited both of us and other waiting diners. Quality wine and freshly prepared local produce was cooked exactly as we requested. Desserts were to die for and the service, par excellence. Well worth every penny of the incredibly inexpensive value for money price we paid. It’s just out of the centre but worth the slightly longer walk. We’ll be back.

Eileen (2 December 2008)

We enjoyed a very good three course lunch at The Globe and the new owners, who have only been there for two months, are to be commended on the quality of the food, the service and the change in the décor.
