Golden Dragon

28-29 Gerrard Street, London, W1D 6JW

The Chinese theme is taken to the max with the décor, so prepare yourselves for plenty of red and gold and many a traditional Chinese dragon. The best of the food has to be the dim sum - though not everybody may be keen on the chicken's feet - but there's plenty more besides that's worth investigating. There are two dining rooms but booking is still advisable, alternatively you could settle for one of their takeaways but then you'd miss out on the dragons. Reviewed by Linda Buttle

REVIEWS OF Golden Dragon

Alison Wren (30 December 2008)

I have to completely disagree with the two reviews below. We have eaten at this restaurant several times with our two small children. The place is always buzzing and busy so not the place for a romantic dinner for two, but the staff have always been friendly, efficient and fantastic with young children. The food, especially the dim sum menu, is excellent quality and value; we paid only just over £40 for a huge feast for four. We are planning to visit again soon.

P Martin (9 February 2008)

We visited this restaurant on the first evening of the Chinese New Year celebration. The place was buzzing and the wait for a table was only twenty minutes – not bad given the time of the year. When we got to the table, it was obvious they were seriously understaffed. We waited for 30 minutes before we had to prompt the staff to atleast offer us a drink. The mixed platter starter for two at £12.50 was vastly overpriced for the four small bites it consisted off. The main courses were tasty enough though the sizzling beef in pepper sauce was not sizzling by the time it reached our table. The boiled rice was overcooked, damp and sticky. All in all, we left this restaurant determined never to return despite having being very reluctantly given, a minute reduction in our bill as a result of our complaints. The management are taking tourists for granted and don't try very hard to provide good food or service. This is not good bearing in mind they add a 15% service charge to the bill.
