Golden Galleon, The Description

In dear respectable Aldeburgh one might be forgiven for not expecting to find a chippy. Perhaps it is symptomatic of the radical changes within Middle England that its attitude to such establishments is becoming more relaxed, and its disciples, who make up a large part of the transient population of Aldeburgh, even have a choice of chippies.

The Golden Galleon is highly popular, with its take-away department on the ground floor and a decent restaurant upstairs. Mr Ramsden has taught us that fish cooked in batter and beef dripping is the tops, and GG have no hesitation in following that advice. Combined with hand-cut chips this makes for an irresistible cheap meal when nobody feels like cooking or when something fresh, tasty and traditional is the thought for the day.

Great food, shame about the age discrimination though. Children under the age of three were not admitted as they might be wearing nappies, which the proprietor was not prepared to provide facilities for. Big assumption, big disappointment!

Wow, possibly the best fish and chips I have ever tasted at the GG. The fish was lovely and fresh and the chips were not dripping in fat and were hand cut. I would give a ten on ten. The only let down was the queue it was round the corner at 4:50 p.m. and raining.
