Golden Lion

We are regular visitors to this establishment whenever we visit the area from London; we have always enjoyed the meals at the Golden Lion but on the last two occasions we have been extremely upset by the managers and chef's rudeness. We arrived at the restaurant at 1420 hours after an 18 mile trip and after checking the opening times of the restaurant on their website, which stated serving from 1200 to 1500 hours. On arrival we asked for a table and the manager came out and told us ‘no’, we said it is only 1420pm and he wouldn't listen or serve us, which I thought was very rude. On arriving back home I phoned for an explanation as to why he had refused to serve us to which we got an equally unsatisfactory response of ‘I don't care if you are upset if you don't like it don't come’. We certainly wouldn't use this restaurant again. Manner's cost nothing and a happy customer will always return - not this one.

The only restaurant I have eaten in where there was nothing at all to criticise. The deceptively simple menu gives no indication of the attention to detail applied to the food. Very efficient service and a careful choice of well kept drinks. Great value for money for what it is. The only issue is managing to get a table. I can still smell the sauce. Marvellous.
