Goose Fat & Garlic Description

A very relaxed and modern place in which to enjoy a wide range of enterprising dishes. Try seared scallops on chorizo sausage with cucumber spaghetti and rocket leaves (good to see rocket used instead of treated as decorative greenery). The confit of duck leg with roasted vegetables and a Jack Daniels sauce could please, and brandy parfait with orange compote, rounded off with really good coffee should bring the evening to a satisfying close. House wine from £12.50.

  • £11.50 (2 courses), 5.30 to 6.30, Mon - Sat

Your Reviews of Goose Fat & Garlic

Trojan Horse (30 March 2008)

This could have been a nice meal in the company of friends but it turned into a night of disappointment. The restaurant was busy but not overly so and after a drink at the well stocked bar we found our table. An impromptu meal for a party of four started reasonably well, the entrées were delightful. The duck pâté was full of robust country flavours yet the toast served with it was stone cold. The highlight was my companion’s battered king prawns with an Aioli mayonnaise and a flavoursome sweet chilli dip. The batter was crisp and light and served as a subtle medium to support the good quality tiger prawns. The third entrée was a smoked salmon dish, which although quite tasty looked strange but this did not detract from its flavour. The last was the soup - mushroom and chestnut served with croutons which arrived nine minutes after the other starters but was very good. The plats de resistances were disappointing. From the main menu we ordered sea bass, lamb steak, beef medallions and steak. The portions were small and tasted bland. I think it was an expensive night for a mediocre meal.

What a great experience we had eating in this restaurant! Having not visited the place since the opening of the bar, we were pleasantly surprised by the relaxed atmosphere that we experienced even before dining. At the bar, we could enjoy pre-meal drinks with a huge list of great wines and cocktails that could satisfy anyone. The food was fantastic, the menu choice great, and the service an absolute delight. Eating out as much as we do, we have never felt the need to rave about some place as much as this one. This restaurant has that secret recipe which many other places lack. It provides you great service, delicious food and great price. Overall, it is a brilliant place to visit.
