Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's Description
Gordon Ramsay's restaurant empire has expanded somewhat of late, to such an extent that many may wonder whether he will be able to maintain the standards throughout, as he is renowned as a perfectionist, which can be seen in his often controversial television appearances!
However, his takeover of the former Claridge's Dining Room, one of the most elegant Art Deco rooms in London, has been judged a success and it has immediately achieved magnificent ratings in the major food guides. He concentrates on quality of ingredients and perfection in saucing and seasoning, therefore whilst the menu is not necessarily adventurous; it delivers what his customers are looking for, along with very slightly aloof service from a team of French waiters.
Successes include tortellini of crab with a shellfish consommé and new season Alba truffles or marinated breasts of quail with charlotte potatoes and a tomato and herb vinaigrette to start, and roasted cannon of lamb served with confit shoulder white bean purée, baby leeks and rosemary jus to follow, while fish is also handled well as in roast monkfish tails on a bed of lobster and crushed potatoes with a creamed coriander lemon grass sauce. Desserts include ravioli of pineapple with crème fraîche, Campari and soda sorbet or Valrhona chocolate fondant with feuillantine and milk ice cream, and mint crème brûlée with a salad and the juice of fresh strawberries.
There are few wines on the list under £20, but the selection is admirable, though inaccessible to most without extremely deep wallets.

Sandy (16 August 2007)
My husband had treated us to a meal there in May and although the service was good, and as for some of the food, I did not expect to find crab shell in my meal. I thought I had broken a tooth as it was too thick to be egg shell, but I put my knife and fork down and could not finish the meal as it was a turn off. When the server took the plate away, my husband explained that I had found shell in my food. Their response - to take £5.00 off the meal, no apology! Also prior to the complaint we had felt we were getting adequate attention, and post complaint we had felt we were being rushed.

My partner and I have never eaten in such a truly brilliant restaurant, the food, service, surroundings and price were perfect.
The total price for a full 3-course meal for myself and my partner with wine and water came to £171 including service - a price that may sound expensive but this is actually very good value for money.
To begin with we entered the very luxurious Claridges Hotel to be greeted by a lady who showed us through to the restaurant.
We then gave our name under which we had booked but unfortunately we'd used a website to book that hadn't confirmed it with G.R's.
We were very annoyed and upset with the site but the Maitre'd and colleague told us not to worry and was able to fit us in very kindly and gave us a card with a number direct to the restaurant.
We were then very politely greeted by every waiter/ess that we saw on the way to our table sat to the edge of the beautiful Art Deco restaurant.
Then I was presented with a very large wine list, over 2000 bottles in fact, from £20-2000 and nearly £5-10,000 bottles in champagne if you wanted the second list!
We chose a very delicious £22 bottle of Muscadet a £4 bottle of Evian, then began to decide what menu we wanted after declining the option of a starting drink.
The head waiter (who was French as were the majority of the waiting staff) was very very friendly, calming and polite as he realised we were new-comers and offered to help with any words we didn't understand and the nature of the menu's.
We were offered either the 3 course menu at £60 or the 7 course menu at £70 which simply had smaller portions but a bigger selection, so for simplicity we chose the 3 course.
This actually turned out to have 7 courses anyway beginning with some delicious crisps and choice of dips (which was much more interesting than this sounds) followed by fresh warm bread and either salted or unsalted butter.
We then had a very well cooked and delicious Mint Pea Soup to cleanse our palates
