Gospoda, The Description

If you're in the city centre in Newcastle upon Tyne and feel like tasting rare Polish cuisine, you could visit Gospoda, considered to be the only restaurant of its kind in the north east of England. The ambiance is simple yet warm and intimate, and the prices are very reasonable; if fortunate, you could sit at a table by the window overlooking Princess Square and enjoy a relaxed traditional meal.

The Polish could very well get reminded of the dishes their mothers prepared - homemade and rustic - expect to find soups, original hunter stew, created from sauerkraut, different meats, herbs and spices; goulash, sausages, crispy potato pancakes and Polish dumplings. A new European menu is on offer at lunchtime.

Desserts encompass apple pie, and waffle cake with fruits and whipped cream. An interesting range of Polish beer as well as wine and vodka based drinks complement the food.

Fixed Lunch

  • £4.90 (3 courses)

Fixed Dinner

  • £10.60 (3 courses + shot of polish black vodka)

Your Reviews of Gospoda, The

Colin (14 March 2009)

What can I say? I have been to Poland many times and this is true Polish style home cooking. It’s tasty, well priced with a good choice of food and beers. It’s well worth a visit.

Chris & Dorota (15 February 2009)

I have recently started dating a Polish girl and she wanted to show me the taste of Poland and I heard about the Gospoda from a friend. We went at lunch time and I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the service. The food was very nice too and was very reasonably priced. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to try something different.
