Gow's
81 Old Broad Street, London, EC2M 1PR
Gow's is a contemporary restaurant located on the corner of Broad Street and Liverpool Street where it has been serving fish and oysters from 1884, and although that makes it a historic place, it's outlook is appealing, a gentle blend of modernity and tradition. Businessmen find it convenient to drop by for lunch although anyone with a penchant for seafood in a pleasant environment is also spotted there regularly. The Oyster Bar upstairs is a wonderful option to relax and watch the world go by as you indulge in a crustacean inspired menu that never fails to please. A Balls Brother establishment, Gow's offers starters of Brixham crab and prawns amongst starters alongside such delicacies as caramelised scallops with elderflower and half lobster grilled with garlic butter.Gow's is a contemporary restaurant located on the corner of Broad Street and Liverpool Street where it has been serving fish and oysters from 1884, and although that makes it a historic place, it's outlook is appealing, a gentle blend of modernity and tradition. For the main course, you could make a foray towards the pan fried sea bass fillets with gooseberry chutney. Wines at Gow's are from the venerable Balls Brothers and feature champagnes and fine wines from the Old and New Worlds.

REVIEWS OF Gow's
Michael Drake (2 January 2009)
We went for lunch having seen Gows from the outside on previous trips we thought we would give it a go. You can not judge a book by its cover. We ordered potted shrimps which was less shrimp and more onion and marinated herrings which were very good indeed.
We followed with skate wing, tiny, and lightly battered cod and mushy peas. Cod was very nicely done with light crispy batter but the mushy peas were decidedly odd. We did not stay for pud as two drunk loud mouthed bankers barged in littering the calm atmosphere with the F word. We paid and left. £70 for lunch with just one glass of champagne and fizzy water was OK but we won't be back in this life time. Nice place, shame about two of the clientele.

Had a great meal last Thursday evening. I have been before at lunchtimes and found it to be very full and noisy, but evenings seem a bit quieter and they have a new set price menu of three courses for £19 which was fantastic value.
Crab crumble to start - very tasty - whole roast sea bream for mains and a chocolate cheesecake for dessert. It seems the portion sizes aren't that much different from the a la carte so it was great value for the money.
Lovely atmosphere too, a nice feel to the room and the waiter was great fun, making us feel welcome and wanted. I will return and suggest you do also.
