Green Dolphin Brasserie & Bar Description
Walking in to the Green Dolphin Brasserie and Bar is like stepping in to a friend's home; the idea is to encourage guests to loosen up a bit and take a little time off from the bustle of modern life. Environmentalists will be happy to know that there are no sugar sticks or sauce tubes there to limit waste paper, and efforts are in hand to examine the supply-chain and maximise sustainability.
The menu remains devoted to the seasons and local suppliers, so you could tuck into Welsh rarebit on raisin and walnut bread with homemade piccalilli or steamed Morecambe Bay mussels with an Asian coconut and vegetable broth. Then choose between confit of duck leg with honey and star anise dressing, and mushroom, courgette and young spinach stroganoff with steamed rice.
Orange tart in chocolate pastry with lime crème fraîche is for those with an insurmountable yearning for something sweet.
Fixed Dinner
- £13.25 (2 courses), £10.95 (2 courses), pre theatre
Your Reviews of Green Dolphin Brasserie & Bar
Claire Vickers (11 August 2009)
An old friend and I called in to the Green Dolphin a few weeks ago on the off chance that we could get a table. We were accommodated and the service was friendly, attentive but not too intrusive to spoil our 'catch up'. The menu was varied and also complemented by the specials board. I chose slow-roasted lamb on a bed of puy lentils with chorizo. It was absolutely delicious. My pudding was an amazing rhubarb crème brûlée. All food was homemade, locally sourced and seasonal. My only hope is that the Green Dolphin is supported by locals as it is an oasis in a desert of microwavable, frozen and convenience foods served up by most local establishments. It's about time we had places like these on our doorstep, since we're way behind the rest of the country in the foodie revolution. Well done Green Dolphin!

My partner and I booked a table on Tuesday. There was no Irish flavour to the evening and very little other flavour at all. Disappointment would be too kind. The portions were meagre and I would not try again.
