Greenfields Deli & Bistro

12 Barley Road, Thelwall, Warrington, WA4 2EZ

Thelwall, for many, is forever associated with the viaduct that carries the M6 over the Manchester Ship canal leaving vertigo-suffering passengers in your car to shut their eyes and ask to be called when you've reached the other bank. However, this is merely a means to an end for not far away in Warrington Greenfields Deli and Bistro is to be found, a haven of fresh produce and honest food made on the premises. Starting, of course with breakfast, for many the best meal of the day, with the full English in poll position, scrambled egg or smoked salmon on buttered crumpets and the whole range of what in Britain we aspire to, but rarely achieve for breakfast, except when away from home. There's even porridge with whiskey and golden syrup.

A spirited wine list offers a well travelled range with a well displayed respect for some of the more traditional areas of wine balanced against enthusiasm for the new.

The Deli part of Geenfields is all part of the same complex, where a dazzling selection of meats, preserves, oils and vinegars, fruit and vegetables and homemade cakes, pies and soups join with a fine array of cheeses that includes Grandma Singelton's Lancashire, Barbers vintage reserve Cheddar, St Killian and Red Devil Leicester and chillies; a veritable Aladdin's Cave for the cheese enthusiast.

REVIEWS OF Greenfields Deli & Bistro

Rob (31 July 2010)

I'm a builder from Warrington and found Greenfields eleven weeks ago. What can I say forget greasy spoons, the full English is the best you will ever eat and the dinners are just as nice.

Donnavanilla (15 March 2010)

This is a fabulous bistro and it’s my fourth or fifth visit there. This time I was there for Mother's Day. I'd booked a table for six, including a 3-year-old and 2-year-old. Four generations of our family went along and we each had something completely different from a fabulous Mother's Day fixed price menu, including a free glass of Champagne. Absolutely everything was delicious, cooked by Australian chef Dave. His other half Lorraine looked after front of house and as always her happy and easy manner made us all very relaxed as soon as we arrived. A young waiter was also helping front of house, he was fabulous and friendly too. The bistro was busy, which is always a good sign, but Dave had staggered bookings so that he was able to prepare excellent quality food with just the right amount of waiting time for everyone. All the other diners certainly seemed to be as satisfied as my own family. Each and every dish that arrived at our table was special, unique and delicious. In starters I had a wild rice and parsnip fritter, my sister had crayfish cocktail, my mum had courgette and lemon soup, my daughter had tempura chicken with Asian noodles and the babies had melon with berries, currants and coulis. Amongst mains I had sea bass and creamy chive mash, mum had chicken with brie and sunblushed tomato, sister had twice-baked cheese soufflé, daughter had sirloin of beef with all the trimmings and babies had chicken goujons with perfect chips and trimmings. In desserts, I had exquisite red wine poached pears, mum and sister had a huge black forest gateau, daughter had a most divine strawberry soufflé and the babies had ice-creams. We all left feeling very full, and very happy. What more could we have asked for!
