Greenhead House
84 Burncross Road, Sheffield, Chapeltown, S35 1SF
Greenhead House is something of a tradition in the Sheffield area, with twenty years of providing for discerning diners to its credit, and even if there are encouraging signs of an overall increase in standards in the area, Greenhead continues its steady and respected course. One of its most attractive features is the affection with which regulars and occasional users alike have for the welcome that is invariably given, not only on arrival but throughout the experience. In our accountant-driven society this is something that all too often becomes submerged. The pretty garden is utilised to the full, the dining room décor has a certain bucolic appeal. Amuse-bouche appear as if by magic as you linger over the drinks and the menu.Greenhead House is something of a tradition in the Sheffield area, with twenty years of providing for discerning diners to its credit, and even if there are encouraging signs of an overall increase in standards in the area, Greenhead continues its steady and respected course. Amuse-bouche appear as if by magic as you linger over the drinks and the menu. This changes on the first of the month and offers a four-course dinner priced according to the main course selected. A first course of soup is well worth considering, followed by a homemade sorbet or possibly poached salmon. That most enticing of dishes, lemon sole fillets may come with roast pepper and a rocket and lobster salad, and there are the traditional beef dishes in plenty. A favourite pudding is ginger shortbread with rhubarb and clotted cream.
The wine list is relatively short, but perfectly adequate, and good value with offerings from around the world. House wines are £13.50.Greenhead is a fine example of a restaurant, which calmly and purposefully gets on with providing what a significant number of people enjoy, thereby retaining stability and respect.
