Greyhound Inn, The

Everybody's idea of an old village inn, that has gradually developed over the centuries, this very attractive creeper-clad building is located amidst rolling Somerset country just outside Taunton. Hosts David and Marina offer a genuinely warm welcome, whether you are there to stay or arriving for a meal in their warm, cosy restaurant.

The walls are lined with tasteful bric a bac, and pictures, many of which extol the virtue of the surrounding countryside with a strong emphasis on fishing.

A relatively simple menu offers food that is both filling and well presented. Start with mussels tossed in garlic, onion, parsley and cream, followed by a chargrilled sirloin steak topped with smoked bacon, asparagus and Stilton, or Mexican style pancakes filled with tomato red pepper and kidney bean salsa. To finish think raspberry Pavlova or homely apple pie with custard or cream.

In addition to a well-stocked wine cellar the Greyhound's selection of award-winning real ales is widely respected and enjoyed.
