Guido's

The restaurant is called Guido's after Guido Fawkes (more commonly known as Guy Fawkes), as the town of Lewes is famous for its annual bonfire night celebrations.

Guido's seats 50 people in the main restaurant area, and also has a mezzanine cocktail area, which, although spacious, has an intimate, cosy feel. Three eerie streetscapes showing different sections of Lewes High Street (commissioned from local artist Peter Messer, who also designed the distinctive logo) create an impressive centrepiece in the cocktail area. Guido's welcomes non-diners who just fancy a drink.

The menu at Guido's consists of a range of Tex-Mex dishes such as fajitas, burritos and enchiladas, all with vegetarian options. The haloumi fajitas are a popular favourite. Guido's also serves steaks with a choice of 10oz or 16oz, with the traditional chips, peas, mushrooms and tomatoes, or as a Tex-Mex steak, topped with homemade chilli and served with chips and onion rings. There is also a great range of homemade beefburgers and vegburgers.

Guido's has a good selection of Old World and New World wines and an extensive range of beers from around the world. Especially recommended is the Bock-style Mexican Negra Modelo beer. Five other Mexican beers are available, as well as beers from the USA and Europe. An alcohol free lager, Bittburger Drive is also available. The excellent Sussex Best Bitter, brewed by Harveys of Lewes, just down the road from Guido's, is available on draught.

There is a wide range of traditional and modern cocktails, made with very generous measures of spirits. Guido's also offers a selection of non-alcoholic cocktails, which were originally intended for drivers, but have become very popular with children.
