Gumstool Inn, The Description
The beautiful Calcot Manor Hotel was formerly an English farmhouse situated around a pretty courtyard of lime trees, ancient stone barns and stables, and two hundred and twenty acres of meadowland. Today it is counted among Britain's finest country hotels, and renowned for its dining facilities, spa, and accommodation.
While The Conservatory Restaurant offers a wonderful formal atmosphere to dine in, The Gumstool Inn is more relaxed, with a regular and devoted clientele from Gloucestershire and further afield. It is served by the same superb kitchen as The Conservatory, and is a previous winner of the Good Pub Guide's 'Dining Pub of the Year' award.
Expect to find dishes such as a seared scallop salad with avocado and crispy pancetta; Asian duck salad with a sweet and sour dressing, and free-range British chicken spit-roasted with lemon, thyme and roasted carrots and leeks.
A great choice of ales and wines provides added pleasure.

I have eaten here a few times and found the food usually good and sometimes excellent. Attractive but not very pleasing staff provide service to basic standards. For the price, I would expect more.

My wife and I have always been frequent diners at the Gumstall and on most occasions we found the service and food to be of a high standard. Our only criticism was that we found it a bit disconcerting to be sat at your table only to witness a steady flow of hotel residents making there way back from the leisure centre in various states of dress. Would it not be possible and definitely more hygienic to have a separate retreat to the hotel? That was just a small criticism of an otherwise excellent place to eat.
