Hand and Cleaver Inn

The Hand and Cleaver is a little way from the main roads of the area but don't let the narrow lanes put you off. When you get to the pub you find a warm welcome and a decent beer, including real ales, and wine. The menu is varied with nibbles such as olives or cheesy nachos and sandwiches. The main part of the menu begins with a good selection of starters witch can include homemade soup and more unusual selections such as wood pigeon or perhaps sweetbreads, whilst main courses offered are not just standard pub food such as fish and chips, homemade burger and steaks but also the best of the fresh fish available and more unusual meat dishes. The desserts are homemade, tasty and reasonably priced. The standard of cooking is very good and the portion sizes are nicely judged. The service is pleasant, helpful and unobtrusive. All in all, it’s a pub that is worth the journey.
