Harry's Bistro
Henllys, Llanfaes, Beaumaris, LL58 8HU
Why Harry's Bistro is known by that name remains a mystery but the history of the building is not a secret too dark to keep; housed in a remarkable mansion built in the 1880s, the site was also occupied by a monastery in the 13th century. The huge paintings on the walls make a bold design statement and guests marvel at the stunning views over the Menai Straits and Snowdonia as you settle in for a meal. The kitchen relies on bountiful produce from Anglesey, carefully selecting ingredients and the skilfull reinterpretation of some seasonal Welsh classics. Starters of plaice goujons are teamed with pea and mangetout salad, while roasted duck breast and corn-fed chicken supreme reign in the main course section. Why Harry's Bistro is known by that name remains a mystery but the history of the building is not a secret too dark to keep; housed in a remarkable mansion built in the 1880s, the site was also occupied by a monastery in the 13th century. Desserts like sticky toffee pudding and raspberry bakewell tart certainly don't lose touch with tradition.
There's equal footing in the extensive and affordable wine list at Harry's Bistro featuring both Old and New World players.

REVIEWS OF Harry's Bistro
Chris H (2 September 2009)
Tamara de Lempika displayed her paintings in the most elite salons of her era, but she would not have considered them out of place adorning Harry’s Bistro. For patrons of the restaurant her distinctive and bold artistic style has an immediate and lasting impact as does the cuisine on offer. Good food is a work of art in itself and the menu takes you on a voyage of discovery delivering on taste and sensuality. We were a party of six reasonably discerning customers in search of a really decent meal at the end of our holiday. We were not disappointed on quality or the price. Just to whet your appetite my starter was a delicious smoked salmon and king prawn cocktail. This was followed by a main of pork belly on a bed of mustard mash and pork jus. This was mouth-watering. For dessert I had the best Bakewell I have ever tasted with strawberries and Chantilly cream. It was a great combination and only costing just over twenty pounds. The restaurant’s calling card asks ‘Who is Harry?’ Some have speculated that the name derives from the other famous Harry’s of New York, Venice and Paris, but this is not the case. We know who the real Harry is, but we want to keep it a secret. We would like to keep the restaurant our secret too, but we can’t.
