Harvey's of Ramsgate

The sparkling harbour vistas which you can view from Harvey's in Ramsgate is just one of its many attractions but the appeal of this former pub goes beyond the visual. It's in fact more of a visceral longing for tasty and delicious seafood, packed with flavour, which draws people to this charming eatery. The décor is traditional with wooden flooring and oak beams but there's also a dash of contemporary colour that helps in creating the right sort of mood, no matter what the occasion.

The menu, developed by Michelin-starred chef John Burton-Race, offers classic French cuisine with an unmistakable British twist, so there might be starters of Absolut vodka and beetroot cure salmon and dill cream followed by a main course of pan-fried fillet of brill with spinach in mussel sauce. Serious meat lovers will find the Kentish lamb with potato and carrot dauphinois to be delightful. Finally, end with the decadent chocolate torte with honeycomb ice cream. Wines are mostly French, with many available by the glass. The quality of Harvey's is demonstrated by the fact that it was awarded an AA rosette within three months of opening.
