Hason Raja Description
Hason Raja is a celebrated mystical village poet from Bangladesh, and this restaurant, thousands of miles away in Holborn, London, carries his name forward. The ambience is bright and charming, great to take special people, or for a relaxed family meal.
On offer are authentic and flavoursome tandoor creations and a range of curries all created by an experienced and well-known chef. Starters of succulent squid tossed with Goan peri peri, red hot sauce with onions and peppers, set the tone. The tandoor has its say with platters of dumka lobster, rack of lamb and chunks of fresh red snapper mildly spiced with carom.
Mains are a lively assortment ranging from roast duck breast served in anise and saffron sauce to the garlic murg tava, the chef's special recipe where chicken is cooked with tomatoes and green peppers, and finished with a touch of ginger and garlic. Vegetarians rejoice with jalfrezi and lightly spiced butternut cooked with curry leaves and mustard seeds.

To my mind one of London's leading Indian restaurants. A new chef imported from the famous Taj Hotel in Mumbai has produced an inspired menu with subtle influences from throughout the Indo-China region and beyond. There's a mix of the tradional and modern, and many dishes unique to Hason Raja. The lightly spiced abadi king prawn starter with a tartar sauce stands out. Mains include a monkfish tikka, dumka lobster, and duck breast served in anise and gooseki parchy. A keen favourite is the chef's signature dish - shathkora mangsho, diced lamb shank cooked with wild Bangladeshi mushrooms. It’s well worth a visit.
