Haunch of Venison

1 Minster Street, Salisbury, SP1 1TB

Haunch of Venison is probably the oldest hostelry in Salisbury; customers can dine in the historic downstairs bar or in the restaurant upstairs. The enormous oak beams predate the building by several hundred years and are thought to have come from early sailing vessels. St George penned the following words in his diary, 'visited Salisbury - had legendary fight with nasty dragon - won of course - nipped into Haunch of Venison for a quick pint and something to eat at the restaurant 'one' - all in a great day out'. The One Restaurant serves fresh and tasty English food at reasonable prices even today and the bar is known for its whiskies, brandies and cask conditioned ales. The menu features modern and old favourites such as venison toad in the hole, smoked haddock chowder, and bubble and squeak.

REVIEWS OF Haunch of Venison

Fleming (7 January 2009)

I ate at the Haunch today with an old friend; a chance to catch up on news and also talk a little business. The food was excellent and pretty good value, particularly nice piping hot soup and tasty seafood chowder. My friend had the mushroom cassoulet and found it very good. Only downside was that the room wasn’t quite warm enough on what was, admittedly, a very cold and bleak day.

Jane (14 March 2008)

We were very disappointed with this place. We tried both the a la carte and the fixed price menu and found the food indifferent.
