Hercules Inn, The Description
The cosy Hercules Inn in picturesque Sutton Cheney is reputedly named after a well-known local racing horse, and situated in a 400-year-old coaching house. The décor of muted neutral tones and mellow exposed wood creates an attractive, relaxed atmosphere, with open fires in the winter and a sunny terrace in the summer.
Head to the cosy bar that offers real ales and live music, or find your way to the beer garden alongside a stylish restaurant. Hearty home cooking fills the modern British menu from daily baked bread, chutneys and desserts to handmade truffles.
Start your meal by sharing a fish board, or charcuterie such as Serrano ham, spicy chorizo, lambs liver pâté, and prosciutto. For mains king scallop ravioli is served with celeriac mash, spinach, and mussel beurre blanc, and roast winter vegetable tart appears with crème fraîche and balsamic glaze. The grill offers a 28-day aged rump cap steak, and hearty cotê de boeuf accompanied by fat chips, seasonal vegetables, and béarnaise sauce.
The toffee apple sundae with homemade banoffee ice cream brings events to a suitably satisfying close.

Your Reviews of Hercules Inn, The
Mike Lodge (26 September 2008)
The menu at The Hercules Country Inn is varied and should have something to suit all tastes. We were a party of three and all had three courses, each choosing something different and all were deemed to be excellent. Worth a special mention was the date bread, which accompanied the pâté. The house wine was of a good standard and value for money. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and on the Friday night we dined the place was full so it is worth booking in advance. Highly recommended!
James Mason (20 June 2008)
The Hercules has recently been totally renovated and is now an extremely pleasant country inn. We opted for the set menu and the food was absolutely delicious, especially the raisin bread, which accompanied the pâté, was the best I have ever tasted. At £15.50 for two courses it was excellent value and I would have no hesitation in either returning or recommending this restaurant.
