Hewat's Restaurant Description

Richard Hewat has been a chef for 16 years. He has worked his way up in the culinary world in many different kitchens and has been a Head Chef for over 10 years. His cuisine is based on a combination of classic French and Scottish but with a little of all tastes and ingredients from all regions of the world to produce a fusion of styles and tastes to delight even the most jaded palette.

Richard has now opened his own restaurant after being the Head Chef for the top executives of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) at their world headquarters in Edinburgh, where he ran a five-star catering operation to standards comparable with the finest restaurants and hotels.

Prior to his working for RBS Richard was Head Chef at Poldrates Restaurant, Haddington and at Fisher's Bistro at Leith, Edinburgh. Whilst Head Chef at Fisher's he was head of the team that won Fisher's the Egon Ronay Seafood Restaurant of the Year Award.

Your Reviews of Hewat's Restaurant

Tait (29 April 2007)

Some friends and I have just enjoyed a splendid evening at Hewat's. The ambience was perfect; a wide selection of wines, and the excellent food was cooked to perfection. I’ll certainly be returning.

Stuart (17 May 2005)

I used to eat regularly in the Marque before it changed hands and became Hewat’s. The Marque was superb but unfortunately Hewat’s doesn’t offer the same experience. The service was rude (mainly from the chef’s wife!) and the food was not up to scratch. I had some prawns with my monkfish and they were so overcooked they were like mush inside the shells – very unappetising. When I mentioned this to the waitress, it was brushed off and I was curtly told ‘that’s how they should be.’ I left shortly after and won’t be returning. If you wish to eat in this area avoid Hewat’s. I suggest you eat in the Borough Hotel restaurant down the road – far superior food and they certainly won’t treat you with such an appalling attitude.
