Your Reviews of High Moor Restaurant, The

Richard Moore (27 August 2008)

I just came back from a meal at the High Moor Restaurant in Wrightington. After reading the review below, I was not looking forward to our meal out tonight. I have eaten at many places around the Northwest and found this among the best meal and service I have ever had anywhere. To start with I had the bruschetta, which was quite divine and definitely not rubbery. My partner had salmon and prawn terrine with cucumber and apple jelly, which was also fantastic. For main course we had chicken with Diane sauce, which was absolutely delicious, served with fresh vegetables. For dessert I had the baked orange egg custard tart with raspberry coulis and my partner had baked rice pudding with homemade jam, which was again out of this world. The service was also superb, The High Moor also had the largest selection of wines and champagne I have ever seen in a restaurant. Altogether we had a very enjoyable meal and I have to strongly recommend this little gem of a restaurant to all. I have recently found out that The High Moor Restaurant is up once again up for Restaurant of the Year and has a one in three chance of getting this award. They will definitely be getting my vote.

We have just eaten there and it was very disappointing. As I am pregnant I couldn't have any of the starters I would normally chosen due to seafood, nuts etc. so decided to ask for the bruschetta from the set menu. This came as a small piece from the end of a small, rubbery baguette with some sliced tomato and what appeared to be slices of pepperami and a bit of basil. We were charged five pounds for this. I could go on but suffice to say that all the ingredients listed in the menu did not appear in the actual dishes we received. What was served to us was badly cooked, under seasoned and the sauces were so poor they could not have been tasted before they were served to us. This could be the worst meal we have had the pleasure of paying for, though I would say that the service, which appears to be taking a bit of a beating on here, was fine.

When one of the country's most respected and leading critics says that a restaurant in this group is 'the best Italian Restaurant outside London' it is time to take them seriously. Britain's love ...
