There is only one word for the pub – superb! Fabulous and attentive service from the moment you walk in and a menu of the highest quality. We had lunch there twice in the last month, on a Sunday and Saturday respectively. The Sunday lunch is perfectly executed and at £9.95 for two courses, it has to be the best in the area. The roast beef and Yorkshire puddings are piled in a tower, with the vegetables both arranged around the plate. The beef was perfectly cooked. From the Saturday lunch we had a roast of lamb, which melted on being disengaged from the bone, nestling on top of a chive mash, with a side addition of a selection of perfectly cooked vegetables. My mother had poached haddock with a poached egg on top of a mash with side vegetables. Again, it was perfect.

Avoid the pub across the road unless you like slow service and pedestrian pub grub.

It has to be my top choice for Cumbria - highly recommended!

My girlfriend and I stayed in a small B&B just up the road from here in the same village, Threlkeld. We went for an evening meal here, the service was brilliant, the food was gorgeous and filling, and they even lent us a corkscrew overnight as we forgot to take one to the B&B for our wine.

When we went to the Salutation Inn across the road the next day, its food menu was so poor, we went into Keswick for lunch.
