The name Host probably evokes images of a warm, genial place and a far cry from London's glitzy, glossy lot and that is exactly what this Hope Street restaurant is all about. It appeals to people who enjoy the camaraderie of sharing elbow space with fellow diners with its communal seating and the décor brings in a 1950s touch. If feasting and fresh air is your idea of dining then the al fresco option is always on hand with views of the surrounding two cathedrals and cobbled streets.

The kitchen does well in bringing out the flavours of the East and West and a quick look at the menu reveals small plates of duck gyoza dumplings, beef teriyaki with kimchi, and slow roasted pork belly. Main courses are an assemblage of crispy fried sea bass, salmon ramon broth with son-in-law egg, bok choi and baby corn, and tomato, red lentil and spinach curry. Desserts of impossible pie with coconut ice cream and chocolate and chilli brownie are as good as their descriptions read.
