My wife and I, along with two other couples first visited Hotel Krone in November of 1991. We were touring and stayed only one night. We all dined in the hotel restaurant that night. I remember having venison; the meal and ‘vino’ was superb. The whole experience was delightful. The accommodations were superior as was the service. I remember walking by the kitchen and as I glanced in, the whole kitchen seemed to just ‘shine back at me’. Something we don't always experience in the States!

Just my wife and I again were touring in late July or August of 1996. We were making our way back up to Zurich to depart. I made a point to plan to stay at Hotel Krone once again and didn't arrive until late in the afternoon. To my disappointment the hotel was closed or gone on holiday. I can't recall the European name for it, but no one was there and it was late and I had no idea as to where else to stay. We drove around back of the hotel where a very nice, I believe fairly young man drove up and got out. I feel sure the guy must have been part of the family that owns Hotel Krone and has for more than 250 years. He explained to me that the hotel was closed. I then explained that we had stayed with them in 1991 and our current predicament. To my amazement, the young man offered us lodging for the night or more if needed, and explained that there would be no one there and no service. We quickly accepted his offer and slept in the same room we had five years before. I hope to be in the area again one day and I'll certainly be staying with these fine folks again.
