House, The Description
The House is a dining pub where you can relax in style. The décor is understated elegance with a rich wooden floor and pale yellow walls adorned with large mirrors. The menu is the work of Jeremy Hollingsworth, a Michelin star chef no less. Having said that you might be surprised to see such a humble dish as shepherd's pie featured, although many of the other choices such as baked cod with persillade crust and pomme fondant and baby fennel are most adventurous. Expect to pay around £14 per main course and don't forget the dessert menu, the crème brulee is classic textbook stuff, delicious.

I had high hopes for this restaurant. But it seems to me that the recent Time Out accolade (Best Gastropub 2003) has gone to their head. They no longer do the menu du jour in the evening, and the food is seriously overpriced. Like too many London restaurants, it was expensive and uninspiring. Nothing special when for the same price you can get so much better elsewhere. Big disappointment after all the hype.
