Howies doesn't fit into the category of a chain because each of its restaurants has an individualistic style, décor and menu. But the underlying commitment to offering remarkable dishes in a relaxed and casual environment is consistently present in all of them. Howies in Bruntfield is situated in a converted bank building and is an elegant and sophisticated dining destination. Dim lighting, dark wood furnishings and lighter coloured floors contrast admirably, creating a deep and lasting impression.

The menu changes monthly and focuses on using local suppliers for all their ingredients. From amongst the starters you could choose the spring roll of haggis served with clapshot and whisky cream followed by a main course of breast of Scottish free range chicken with thyme potato cake, creamed Savoy cabbage and bacon. Cranachan layered with raspberry coulis and served with shortbread biscuit is a Scottish favourite for dessert. There's also a selection of Scottish cheeses served with rough oatcakes, grapes and quince jelly.
