Il Tocco d' Italia Ristorante and Bar Description
Superbly located by the River Avon, the Il Tocco d' Italia Ristorante and Bar serves some delicious classic to progressive native food and Italian wine. A Sicilian chef heads the kitchen, where fresh homemade pastas and wonderfully light risottos jostle with interesting dishes of meat and fish.
A croquette of milk and ham with marinated chicken fillet makes an excellent starter. Try the salmon with champagne and saffron cream sauce or chicken breast in a Gorgonzola sauce for mains, all accompanied by a crunchy vegetable melange in a giant halved tomato. Panna cotta with wild berries is one of the seven Italian desserts on the menu, and rumour has it that a glass of dessert wine would complement it very well.
People tend to linger at the pleasant bar area downstairs, before heading up to dine. In the summer months, the balcony and terrace provide a beautiful setting to take in the fine British sunshine, and inside, you can sit by the huge picture window that looks out across to the Pulteney Weir.
Your Reviews of Il Tocco d' Italia Ristorante and Bar
Willaim Burke (6 March 2009)
It was a terrible meal, incredibly rude and brusque service, over priced, over hyped and a real shame that people get drawn into going there. We went on recommendation from a friend and found the whole experience dispiriting and expensive. The food was poor quality, cold and delivered at different times, the manager-owner was not interested in our complaints and we felt fairly abused by the time we left. This is the worse sort of restaurant, the type where the owner is only interested in your fame; see the website testimonials, than the average punter.
Bittern (21 May 2008)
I've been there a couple of times for lunch. The first time it was excellent - the pasta tasted really Italian, and the wine was brilliant. The second time it was awful with poor service, and my friend to whom I had recommended the restaurant kept waiting for a main course - the restaurant was hardly full. The manager seemed indifferent to our complaints so we won't be returning.
