Imrans Description
Here we have an old-established favourite, tucked away in Sparkbrook which has been bringing joy to the palates of people from all nations for over thirty years. Imrans has always had the good sense to go with the times, absorbing Balti as it arrived and not afraid to innovate, to which their family size naan bear witness. In a way it is comforting in a restless world to see such places continuing their steady way, nor is it particularly bad for business. You will need to take along your own bottles - no license.

It was our second visit, and yes, the food was nice. However, the service was slow with several tables complaining of the same, and the attitude of the front of house server was appalling. When paying, the pin terminal was passed to me to enter my pin with no amount showing, as the staff had pressed enter once too many times. I stated I would not enter my pin without confirming the amount, as the members of staff were so busy and an error could be made. The attitude I then met with for refusing was unbelievable. When he realised I was not going to enter the pin he shouted about wasting paper, and when the amount was re-entered he thrust the terminal in my face, virtually spat the word 'happy' at me before smacking it on the counter for me to enter my pin. I thanked him, and asked him if he would have agreed to pay when he hadn't seen the amount. I was met with a sarcastic 'yeah whatever, you're right, I’m wrong, have a nice day' as he handed over the card and receipt. This was an unbelievably bad attitude for what was his error and a simple mistake. I will never be going back again.

My family and I have been visiting Imrans for over 20 years, unbelievable to me as I remember the first time as if it were yesterday. It is almost a 30 mile round trip and I live in an area famous for curry houses. So why bother? Well, every time I visit yet another highly recommended local restaurant I regret it. Imrans food has moved with the times but it is as good, if not better, than it was 20 years ago. Forget bland 'Anglo-Indian' food, in my humble opinion this is as good as it gets. Make the trip, it really is worth it.
