India Club at Strand Continental Hotel
Second Floor, 143 Strand, London, WC2R 1JA
Having been around for more than 50 years it's pretty fair to say that the India Club has become something of an institution. Dressed with portraits of various Indian leaders and scenery, its simple décor doesn't deter its loyal band of followers who eat here on a regular basis, attracted by the classic cooking and low prices. The menu features non-vegetarian fare on one side with choices like chicken or lamb curry Madras, bhuna, pilau, korma, scampi curry, kebabs, keema peas, and tandoori. Then there are plenty of options for vegetarians that include beans masala, mushroom curry, or sambar, a lentil stew with tamarind and vegetables. If you want a beer or a glass of wine to accompany your meal you'll have to seek out the hotel bar downstairs, which has an interesting piece of history.Having been around for more than 50 years it's pretty fair to say that the India Club has become something of an institution. Established in 1946 by India?s first High Commissioner to the UK, this was originally a meeting place for Indians, but now it?s not uncommon to see barristers, students and academics.

REVIEWS OF India Club at Strand Continental Hotel
Mark (5 February 2010)
Absolutely fantastic, the best Indian food I've eaten at in London! Food is so authentic and nothing like the average Indian restaurant you get in London. It is a truly unique experience as well, because it feels like you're going back in time. Entering the building is like being transported back to colonial India. Brilliant!

I ate at the India Club yesterday and to say I was surprised at the food is an understatement. My starter of mixed bhaji of chilli and onion was overcooked and flavourless. The main course of lamb madras came in a very small bowl the same size as a mug and out of the 7 small pieces of meat I found 3 to be pure gristle. The accompanying naan bread was also undercooked. I will definitely not be eating there again and would not recommend the restaurant to anyone.
