Indigo (yard) Description
One of the places to be in Edinburgh, particularly round about 5 pm on a Friday, when the place is stacked high with people relaxing at the end of a long hard week. Primarily a place in which to drink the need for something more has long been recognised and it currently comes through a new chef who is rumoured to be off to a great start.
Duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce may increase the thirst but they make a good foundation for loin of lamb with green beans and port wine sauce (though watch the specials board as well). The banana pudding with toffee sauce has particular appeal and the coffee there is extra special.
Maybe it's the groovy nature of the place but Indigo is blessed with much better than normal staff which, in a place like this is fundamental to the atmosphere. No wonder one of their top cocktails is called 'hot kiss'.

Though I came to Indigo for the free wireless internet and my favourite mineral water, Badoit, I eventually became hungry, and ordered some food. Exquisite presentation, and high-quality, well-chosen ingredients made for a superb mixed salad and beef carpaccio! Sometimes the simplest dishes tell you all you need to know about an establishment. I was also thrilled to learn that fresh-squeezed juices were served: pear, pineapple, apple and orange. Sleek minimalist decor with huge comfortable couches and an attractive, friendly staff add to the enjoyment of the food.

Ate breakfast here a couple of weekends ago and I can recommend the big breakfast – it comes with orange juice and tea. Was about £6.50 and great value.
Other half didn't enjoy his food - he had fruit compote with crème fraiche - it had a tiny amount of fruit and loads of full fat crème fraiche - he wasn't impressed!
