Inn at the Elm Tree, The Description
This modern restaurant, rather improbably located within a 19th century barn makes a point of serving dishes with a strong Welsh inclination. Thus Welsh Black beef and game in season from local estates feature prominently. There are also rave reviews for the caramelised rice pudding and apricot compote. House wine at £11. Altogether a no-nonsense place and good value for money.

We went to The Inn at the Elm Tree and found it very disappointing. There were no seats for us in the bar area, and at a point, we even ended up sitting on the stairs. The menu is not satisfactory for non-meat eaters. The soup I tried was very salty and so I could not finish it. The prices are high as per the food standards. We had booked because the South Wales Echo gave a good write up and talked highly about the portions of the Inn. But quite the reverse was true as the portions were very small. We certainly would not go there again.

That was a very disappointing evening at the Elm Tree. I know many locals who have enjoyed an excellent lunch there and the place was recommended for our birthday night out, but we certainly would not be going to the Elm Tree again. Apart from the menu being exactly the same as our last visit five months ago (which was also below standard), the food was of exceptionally poor quality. This may be a five star Inn but in my opinion, the restaurant is not worthy of even a single star.
