By Lanark Loch, 179 Hyndford Road, Lanark, ML11 9BJ

Inn on the Loch, Lanark sits on Lanark Loch, Scotland, this delightful country inn overlooks Lanark Loch country park with its resident population of 50 swans. It has been recently upgraded, and all food is freshly prepared from scratch, with such traditional Scottish dishes as haggis and cullen skink featured on the menu. Head Chef is Duncan McKay, formerly Head Chef at 78 St. Vincent, Glasgow (Good Food Guide and AA listed during Duncan's tenure). There is an extensive wine list with beers from Belhaven as well as a decent Belgian selection.

REVIEWS OF Inn on the Loch

L (26 April 2009)

On arrival we were told the wait time would be 15 minutes, which was fine as they told us we could wait downstairs in the bar and they would come and get us. After 30 minutes we went back upstairs to find empty tables and they had forgotten about us. The meal was vastly overpriced at £8.25 for a veggie stir-fry which was served in a soup bowl with approximately three tablespoons of rice and was swimming in sauce. I was also given half naan bread, for a stir fry, which I assumed was because they ran out of rice. When I complained the manager didn't apologise, was extremely rude and made us wait 10 minutes for the bill. We definitely won't be back.

Alan H (2 September 2008)

It may be a great location but it still leaves a lot to be desired. The service was very poor and it took nearly 30 minutes for the first course to turn up, then nearly 50 minutes between the first and second courses. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy. The staff could only tell us the basic ingredients of the meals and didn't seem to know much about the menu at all. They knew absolutely nothing about the wine list. Any questions we asked had to be constantly referred to someone hidden away somewhere before we could get an answer. Overall, the food was okay, but only on the upper end of ‘pub grub’ standard. This is certainly not the place to go if you want to impress someone.
