My husband, Craig, organised a weekend in London away from our hectic photography business. We had a late lunch in the Oyster Bar - the food was outstanding, service humorous and attentive and it is just our favourite place to enjoy great seafood in the heart of London. I am returning to London on 1/9/11 with a girlfriend for some retail therapy and will of course be returning to the Oyster Bar to indulge ourselves. Thank you to all the staff at J. Sheekey's for providing such an amazing place to enjoy fine food and great service.

We visited here at the end of August 2004, having booked for a 6pm table, on a Sunday, only hours before.

Our table was in a great location and I love the decor - it is traditional which is my favourite, all dark wood and leather, polished silver and starched white napkins, lovely!

The staff are very friendly, very helpful and know their stuff, even where wine and food matching are concerned AND I had the jellied eel, which isn’t the easiest to pair with vino.

The food was good, NOT excellent, just cooked very well and ample proportions - good, honest fair but I expected more, maybe it has changed since Belgo took over but I wasn’t bowled over, Fishers in Edinburgh is what I was after but I didn’t get it, which was a little disappointing.

This said the whole experience was very pleasant and the dessert was awesome, as was the wine - just a shame that as this is a renowned seafood joint it wasn’t up to my rave reviews.

I shall go again and next time I shall have the Fish and Chips just to see if I maybe chose incorrectly on this visit.
