Jabajak Country Retreat Description
The restaurant complex was originally a stone built carriage house, stable, grain store and milking parlour dating back over 100 years; this forms a courtyard, which was used by local farmers to shoe their cattle on the way to the markets of London! It even boasts its own traditional well and raised Koi pond.
It has been tastefully renovated back from a state of ruin to form six areas, which boast locally crafted solid oak floors and features, exposed ceiling timbers, stone walls and under floor heating throughout. It comprises a bar lounge, four dining locations and a 'state of the art' commercial kitchen.
It is already considered to be one of the top Restaurants in West Wales, winning the silver award from the Food Standards Agency in its first year, illustrating the care and attention they have put into the facility and its products.
This is also demonstrated in the chef's attention to the sourcing, preparation, and gentle cooking of the local ingredients that make up their various menus and individual furnishings that give every room its unique tailor-made identity.
Your Reviews of Jabajak Country Retreat
Rob Newbold (11 March 2006)
From the moment we set eyes upon this restaurant we knew we were in for a special evening. Set in spacious grounds and surrounded by the idyllic West Wales countryside the location is fabulous.
After a welcome drink in the spacious customer lounge, where we sat on one of the many gorgeous leather sofas we were led into the beautifully restored stone walled bistro area. The menu was comprehensive and offered a wide selection of dishes that feature many local ingredients.
After starters of crayfish and herring, we chose salt marsh lamb and local fillet steak for the main course. The lamb was remarkable with a distinctive but succulent flavour. However the fillet steak was absolutely fantastic by far the best I have eaten, both were washed down with a great bottle of reasonably priced Shiraz from an extensive wine menu.
Although fully stuffed, the portions were generous, we managed to cram down a piece of gorgeous home made chocolate cheesecake and a helping of fried banana cooked in Brandy.
The staff we found warm and friendly and to be honest we could have stayed chatting for hours, you just do not want to leave. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, if you are looking for a special meal in a special setting then this is the place for you.
