REVIEWS OF Jacks Brasserie

Stephanie (8 May 2011)

I stumbled across Jacks on Easter Sunday purely by accident. My partner and I were walking around the harbour intending to have lunch when we passed a lovely large sunny terrace with lots of seating and fantastic views of the water. We decided to stop for a drink and ended up spending most of the afternoon there. The staff were friendly and efficient despite it being extremely busy. The food was very tasty and was presented very nicely and the jugs of pimm went down far too easily. There was a lovely atmosphere and it was all very reasonably priced. We could not believe we had never discovered this gem before and are looking forward to our next visit.

We visited Jacks Brasserie a few weeks ago for dinner with some friends, the food was very good and the service was hilarious. As there was no room in the bar we were shown straight to our table, which had a terrible wobble - we were told the legs could be adjusted at the bottom and were left to do it ourselves. We then ordered pre-dinner drinks and were asked if we were ready to order, we said we would like to enjoy a drink first and were told there was no hurry, only for our waitress to return within a minute and ask if we were ready, this happened three times. The wine was poured for only three of us while there were four at the table. We questioned if the homemade chips were really homemade as they looked very much like frozen - to be asked if we were serious and never returned with an answer after going to ask the chef. The next bottle of wine was left on the table with the screw top still attached and a waitress tried to convince us that the desserts she was carrying were definitely for us even though our starters hadn't arrived yet! However, the food made up for all these minor faults and as there was such a good atmosphere we laughed about it and had a great night - we will definitely go back.
