Jacksons Restaurant Description

A classic example of one of several little restaurants in Edinburgh, simply oozing character, this one is located hard by Jackson's Close, a 300 year old listed building on the Royal Mile.

The main restaurant is in the basement, with a handsome party room upstairs. In a city where a great pride is taken in the national cooking Jacksons aims to produce it to the highest possible standard. Any restaurant that produces haggis, that much under-rated dish of the country, to their standard, has to be applauded.

That, of course, is before you get to the wonderful salmon, venison and incomparable Scottish lamb. Try their Finan chowder, smoked fillet of Finan haddock steamed with a crisp white wine set in a rich fennel and saffron stew to start out on a contented evening.

House wine at £13.25 a bottle.

Your Reviews of Jacksons Restaurant

Stuart King (9 February 2008)

My wife and I wanted something different and Jacksons delivered totally. From the minute you walk in, the service is first class. The food is to a very high standard and is very reasonable. Food and drinks for two came to a total of £63. I would definitely recommend Jacksons to anyone wanting something different. A very nice little Scottish restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh.

Robert (28 November 2007)

I read the review about Jackson's and it was cold upstairs, so we were a bit apprehensive when we were shown upstairs. Quite honestly I don't understand the review given. If anything it was too warm especially as the room filled up. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic. I had the lamb rack, it came out pink and it literally melted in the mouth. I also had the langoustines to start and although a bit troublesome to eat, it was very enjoyable. The desserts did just the job to finish off and the price was very reasonable for a night out. I would definitely recommend that lovely old restaurant to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
