Jambo Restaurant

Jambo is a small, cosy restaurant in Windermere, at the heart of the beautiful Lake District. The Proprietors, Kevin and Andrea strive to provide quality food and wines at reasonable prices. They are both fully trained chefs and have worked in the catering industry for over 15 years, Kevin is also a Master Chef of Great Britain.

Their menu changes monthly so that they can offer what their suppliers have at the best each month, choices might include starters such as seared king scallops resting on a pea guacamole roasted red peppers and a basil dressing or grilled boneless quail carved over a parmesan polenta, buttery leeks, drizzled with pesto.

If those sound tempting their main courses go one better with dishes like butter roasted corn fed chicken, carved over a herb mash, garlic roasted girolle mushrooms and wilted baby spinach; flash seared tuna loin with green beans roasted vine tomatoes, new potatoes and black olives; roast fillet of mature beef on confit potatoes, grilled field mushroom and topped with caramelised onions and roasted tomatoes or roast rack of Cumbrian lamb carved onto a ragout of peas, little gems, crispy bacon and crispy new potatoes. While vegetarians are always catered for.

The word Jambo is a friendly greeting in Swahili meaning 'Hello, Welcome'. Kevin and Andrea became familiar with that word on their honeymoon in Kenya, where there was always a warm welcome, it seems highly appropriate as a name for their delightful restaurant.
