Jamies - Bishopsgate

155 Bishopsgate, London, EC2A 2AA

Like siblings in a family, the five outlets of Jamies bar have both similarities and differences, making them attractive choices for a quick drink or a relaxed meal. The same standard of service is maintained across the branches, yet the chefs and managers are encouraged to be individualistic and are free to fix their own menus, vary the décor and hold unique activities. The wine list offers options for any mood or budget and diners can choose premium spirits, cocktails, beers and soft drinks from a comprehensive selection. Adding a special touch to their carte, Jamies has 'be good' wines with modest alcohol contents. They favour products made by responsible suppliers who practice sustainable grape growing and wine making methods, just as they source their produce from validated producers.

Depending on the season and demand, they serve the best of British, Italian, Chinese, Greek and Indian cuisine. Look out for duck and apple salad or smoked salmon with their unusual chutneys made in house. Their special seafood, meat and vegetarian sandwich platters are available for four, six or eight people.

Mains might include Bombardier battered fish and chips, chargrilled Caesar salad, and venison stew. You could opt for a simple ploughman's working lunch or the fish pie in a white wine cream sauce, topped with cheesy mash potato, served with buttered peas and carrots.

The attractive desserts there include English and Irish cheeses, bread, oatcakes and fruit chutney, chocolate fondue, assorted puddings, as well as coffee, digestive wines and liqueurs.

REVIEWS OF Jamies - Bishopsgate

Sarah Wilson (8 July 2011)

I went to Jamies last week to meet a friend for her birthday drinks. I hadn’t heard of Jamies before and I got a surprise when I arrived. It is a beautiful bar that was really buzzing. The atmosphere was great. Although it was really busy we had great service from the waitress and the drinks came quickly. The food was delicious. I shall definitely be going back to Jamies before long.

Abigail (4 May 2007)

Having been a regular visitor to Jamies on Bishopsgate I've always been happy with my experiences - that is up until now. The restaurant and bar has had a recent make over with new staff and a new menu to boot. The service was dire, we waited over forty five minutes for our food once ordered which, when produced, was cold, tasteless and stale! The new menu is over priced and very dull. Meals are served on heavy oversized wooden breadboards (!!). The tables are too small to accommodate more than one board at a time. The music was annoying and it was freezing cold. I will, with regret never visit this bar again and am thankful that my lunch date on this occasion was not a client - had it been I fear this disaster of a restaurant may have cost me a deal!
