What was once a dry stone farmhouse is now converted to a charming rustic hotel, which appears to be literally hiding in a world of greenery, but it hasn't taken too long for the well-heeled denizens of France to discover this wonderful getaway, and Le Ranquet certainly does well to cater for their demands with picturesque gardens, swimming pool and even a helipad. Jardins Du Ranquet is an epitome of tranquillity, so rest between forkfuls of Mediterranean fish, saffron vegetables and bouillabaisse style sauce and take in views of the lush green park outside and when the weather warms up a bit you could dine on the terrace overlooking the pool. There's also an ambitious menu on hand serving up traditional Cevenol dishes with Mediterranean and modern European touches, and the choices range from fillet of venison with rosemary brioche, port jus and cream of roasted pumpkin, to saddle of rabbit with ceps from Lozere, finally ending with a shortbread tart and lemon meringue with honey ice cream.
