Your Reviews of Jasmine

Frances McLennan (29 June 2008)

I visited Jasmine on Friday for lunch with a friend and both of us were looking forward to it after reading great reviews on the internet. Our table had been booked for 12.30; we arrived and were shown to our seat right up against another table for two. If anybody had arrived for that table we would have had to get up - not impressed. The waitress was not very welcoming, in fact very frosty. We received set menus and asked if we would like a drink and I asked for the wine list. After she brought it to us she hovered at the table and would not go away. I then asked for two glasses of water to get some time to decide. We ended up going for a bottle of house red, which was lovely.

Luckily we knew what we wanted off the menu. My friend decided to try vegetable pancake, which turned out to be just spring rolls with dip, nothing very exciting. I took the chicken satay, which was okay. Main courses were chicken and mushroom, and beef Szechwan. The chicken was okay, however there was only one kind of mushroom. The beef turned cold very fast so it was not appetising. For sweets we decided on pineapple and banana fritters. The pineapple was okay and my friend received half a banana. We were disappointed and definitely not impressed with the overall experience.

My family visited Jasmine recently and the children as well as adults were made to feel welcome. We stuck to the set meal, which arrived quickly and was well prepared, beautifully presented and tasted great. We didn't stray far from the tried and tested, but we at last had a basis for comparison and the Jasmine comes out well indeed. The dishes were spicy, especially the chilli prawns, but not overly so. The combinations of flavours were good and everything arrived piping hot. The staff were friendly and helpful all the time, service was quick and efficient but not obtrusive. We all had a fine time.
