Jeremy's at Borde Hill Description

jeremys at borde hillBorde Hill Gardens are one of the great tourist attractions of Sussex, and, apart from being a wonderful dendrological experience, they also play host to Jeremy's Restaurant, benefiting from the classy food that Jeremy's offers while the restaurant gains with a dramatic setting.

It is described on their website as 'lovely, airy and suffused with light, the terrace restaurant crowns the gentle sloping lawns of the Victorian Walled Garden. Entering by the cobbled courtyard, a visitor may be astonished by the first view, framed by the blue-slated entrance hall, of the vine covered pergola, leading down into this unsuspected secret garden.'

Jeremy and Vera Ashpool have gathered many thousands of loyal and appreciative customers over the years. The opening of Jeremy's at Borde Hill is an exciting step in their restaurant's evolution, which has led from a tiny bistro 15 years ago to today's national recognition and awards. Much of the success in the kitchen comes from the choice of produce and materials, free-range pork is a speciality and local asparagus, together with the 'house bread'.

The food has a lot to recommend it, both in terms of range and quality, and typical dishes could consist of smoked breast of duck, marinated in lapsang souchong, grated pears and coriander; cream of mussel soup, saffron and chives; warm tart of provençal vegetables and red pepper dressing or carpaccio of marinated salmon with rocket salad and lemon zest to commence a meal with.

Mains could consist of braised shoulder of local lamb with flageolet beans, shallots and white wine; roasted cod fillet in a potato, leek and spinach stew or Venetian style calf's liver, mash potato and dry cure bacon. Outstanding amongst the array of puddings is a pastry tart with fresh passion fruit and orange beneath a caramelised top. House wines start from £11 for the white, or £12 for their red, and there is a good choice beyond.

For more information, why not visit their Website, where you can get a free bottle of wine and be informed of special events by signing up for their e-mail list, or even find details on planning your wedding at Jeremy's, a speciality of theirs.

Your Reviews of Jeremy's at Borde Hill

Bruce Lambert (6 March 2006)

I have eaten here on many occasions over the past few years and never had a bad meal yet. The food is consistently good and the wine list is well chosen. The Spanish house white is one of the best house wines I have had anywhere.

While not cheap the standard of cooking is of a quality normally associated with more expensive restaurants so I reckon Jeremy's offers good value and I wouldn't hesitate to go again.

Penny Laver (19 August 2004)

We had a family lunch at Jeremy's on Sunday 15th August and it was superb as always. The staff are attentive and the restaurant and gardens are pretty and relaxing. The food is wonderful, very fresh and beautifully prepared and presented and all partnered by a good wine list. If you want a truly great experience, give Jeremy's a visit, you won't be disappointed..!!
