Johns Cafe Bar Description
John's has been established for twenty five years, and is probably one of the few family run restaurants left in Bristol; they are open to the general public for Thai and South East Asian cuisine only on Friday and Saturday evenings and on Sundays for their legendary roast dinners.
They also offer the restaurant for private hire from Monday to Thursday, with full use of a HD projector and a five foot screen for corporate or movie events.
Their Thai menu offers starters such as curried seafood filo baskets, warm duck salad with crispy crackling and stir-fried mushrooms in a rich Northern Thai curried sauce. For mains, you could try the lamb fillet braised in fresh ginger, yogurt and cream; chicken breast, stir fried with cashews in a sweet and sour soy sauce or Malaysian seafood curry.
The desserts are traditionally English and include raspberry crème brûlée, iced white chocolate meringue cake or sticky toffee pudding.
The Sunday menu includes roast sirloin of beef, poached loin of pork with crackling, a New Orleans style seafood casserole and fresh asparagus, wild mushrooms, white wine, cognac and cream baked in filo pastry.
John's is a relaxed, kind of romantic place, where good food and good service is their aim, and they usually get there.
Your Reviews of Johns Cafe Bar
Debbie (9 January 2009)
We had a truly lovely meal at Johns Cafe Bar. When you arrive you are greeted with a smile by the friendly staff, something you certainly don't get everywhere. We had poppadums and dips with our drinks at the bar whilst perusing the menu, there are also specials to choose from on the blackboard. The restaurant itself is fairly small and cosy without being cramped, and you can see John himself cooking in the kitchen from your seat. We chose seafood baskets and Thai fish cakes to start and then we both had lamb and coriander curry served with crispy roasties and rice, all were delicious, hot and good sized portions. The service was excellent, always as important to me as the food. We'll be back soon and we took away a couple of John's sauces that are sold frozen so we can have a go at recreating his dishes at home.
