Rodney Creme (1 May 2007)
Having tried most restaurants in the West Midlands we decided to try Jonathans. What a waste of money! Overpriced average food (they even charge for tap water), we first ordered our starters.
My wife had carrot and coriander soup which was tasteless and in her words 'tasted like the baby food found in jars', my own of pan heggerty was bland. Our main course of the chef’s creation (sirloin steak in mushroom and tarragon sauce) accompanied by potatoes, beans wrapped in bacon, cheese and potato gratin and red cabbage was at best average. The steak was tough with about two inches of fat and the side dishes bland.
We didn’t order a sweet, paid the bill and left. For anyone on average income thinking of a night in an expensive restaurant don’t consider this restaurant. We don’t mind paying for quality but on this occasion quality was missing and we have had better meals at local pubs. Cross this off your list!

I was worried when I saw its location, on a busy crossroads, and the building didn’t look very attractive, once I walked in, I entered a new world, what a fabulous place.................a quirky hotel extreme! I loved my room, sorry, Victorian parlour, it wasn’t the best room in the hotel, but much better than other hotels I have stayed in. I had one of the finest meals I have eaten for years, once again, the restaurant was quirky, not one room but 4 or 5 alcoves/dining rooms, all furbished with Antique Furnishings.............the food I felt to be good value for the money, wasn’t cheap, but I don’t mind paying for quality. I then booked another stay there in January with all my family, I keep telling people about Jonathons, and say `you have just got to stay there`. I LOVE JONATHANS.
