Kambi's Description
Never judge a restaurant by its exterior - most of us have been had too often that way, and Kambi is no exception. There are some areas of Brighton that have taken a dip for the worse during the course of the new developments and Western Road is certainly one of them. No surprise then that you have to place your trust in better things to come when you decide to visit Kambi, to find that you are entering an authentic world of Middle Eastern tradition with a cuisine to match. The Arabian flavours are all there and with 35 covers only the place has a wonderfully cosy air which whisks you away to another civilisation. No licence so take your own bottle(s) along, which has the added benefit of reducing even further an already very reasonable tab at the end of the evening.

The food is lovely - really good selection and price. However, one waitress really detracted from the experience by being discourteous, ignoring us and asking us to stay until she'd checked if we'd paid the right amount for our bill, which she did to no one else. Just because we're young customers, she probably felt that we didn't matter to her. It took a long time to actually give us menus and take our orders, even though it wasn't that busy - but the food came relatively fast after this. The kitchen was brilliant but the front of house could do better, apart from one waiter who was really nice and usually makes cocktails.

I’ve eaten at Kambi’s a few times, with its lush food. I’ve had romantic meals with my fellow sharing a mezze and had a sixteenth birthday for my son that was great, they turned the lights down and played a Lebanese birthday song and bought out some baccala with a candle! Everyone was clapping and it was fun. Great veggie stuff.
