Kayal - Nottingham

8 Broad Street, Nottingham, NG1 3AL

The word Kayal refers to the serene backwaters of the South Indian state of Kerala, frequently referred to as 'God's own country' due to its breathtaking natural beauty. Opening in 2008, in Nottingham, Kayal was probably the first authentic South Indian seafood restaurant in the Midlands and introduced people to this Asian coastal cuisine. Start your meal with a soothing drumstick soup, known for its medicinal qualities in ayurveda, spicy lamb cubes with onions, black pepper, ginger and green chillies, or batter fried boiled egg served with chutney. Main courses of thrilling prawn dishes cooked in a thick sauce with coconut, ginger and curry leaves; pomfret covered with specially made spicy paste, wrapped with banana leaf and steam cooked, and vegetarian specials of stew and a pea mushroom curry can be accompanied by steamed or coconut rice, or the traditional Indian breads.

KAYAL has to be one of the best south Indian restaurants in Leicester. Superb fresh food and happy smiling staff in a basic, clean setting.the decoration in restaurant was really fantastic.

Harry (30 June 2011)

Definitely one of the better Indian restaurants in Nottingham with food and service of a high standard. Reasonably priced as well as a thoroughly enjoyable 'thali'. I would recommend to anyone in Nottinghamshire area fancying a curry!
