Kensington Creperie

2 Exhibition Road, London, SW7 2HF

True, there may be many French crêperie cafés dotting London, but the Kensington version deserves special mention. Those who have consigned crêpes to the last-minute-dessert zone will have something to think about here with choices that include fresh treats prepared using an assortment of ingredients directly imported from France. They are also flexible enough to accommodate those who'd like a late supper after a show at the nearby Royal Albert Hall. The kitchen turns out some splendid savoury versions like tartiflette galette with bacon, cheese, potatoes, cream, onion and white wine on a buckwheat crêpe, or the sweet variety with banana, walnuts, butter and cream with Canadian maple syrup poured all over and splashed with cointreau.

Some of the other culinary pleasures at Kensington Crêperie come by the way of salads like Parisienne with lettuce, ham, cheese, sweet corn, egg and cherry tomatoes with a special French dressing.

The wine list is exclusively French and for those who'd like something different there's a traditional French cider that blends well with the food.

REVIEWS OF Kensington Creperie

James Kenny (22 April 2004)

Having formerly been a student at Imperial College in South Kensington I had the good fortune to meet Edward as he was opening this café. It is the continuation of a most successful crepe van he has run in Hampstead for a long time.

The crepes (and gallettes) are quite simply the best I have ever tasted and the variety of fillings is both wide ranging and well chosen. The salade nicoise is mouth watering as well, I was never a fan of that particular salad but after a sample from this place my taste buds have fallen in love.

Also, I note this site suggests the average cost per head as £17. I suppose this is possible if you order a bottle of wine as well. But there is an excellent and on-going deal whereby one can have two crepes (1 savoury and 1 sweet) with a drink for £10. This means I can have both my favourites: gallette complete followed by bannanas with dark belgian chocolate and rum...with an orangina all for a tenner! Wow...

Definitely a thumbs up for this place, I've certainly never come across crepes this good in my many years in France.
